ACMC-Marshall Surgery Center’s General Surgeon Dr. Steven Kidd

Dr. Steven Kidd, ACMC-Marshall, General SurgeryTexas native Dr. Steven Kidd is no stranger to southwest and west central Minnesota. In fact prior to Marshall, he called Willmar home for more than 18 years.  He was a general surgeon at Willmar Surgery Center, a joint venture between ACMC and Rice Memorial Hospital, before making the move to Marshall last July. He’s ACMC-Marshall Surgery Center’s general surgeon, but he also sees patients at ACMC-Marshall.

Practicing in a Rural Area

“After a couple of years of medical school, I knew that I wanted to practice in a more rural area,” Dr. Kidd said.

His earliest exposure to rural medicine was through the University of Minnesota’s Rural Physician Associate Program (RPAP).  His experience as an RPAP student in Benson confirmed that practicing somewhere in an area like Benson was where he really wanted to be.

“RPAP gave me my first exposure to ACMC. It was this experience that led me to general surgery. Though I intended to become a family medicine physician, I soon learned I was meant to be a surgeon,” Dr. Kidd said.

He adds, “I like to fix things; I’ve always liked to so general surgery was a good match for me. Fixing things is what I do as a surgeon. It’s so gratifying to help someone by providing them with a much-needed surgery that helps them get back to living their lives as they deserve to.”

Caring for Patients across the Region

Though every day is different with unique patients and cases, Dr. Kidd spends the first half of most days in the ACMC-Marshall clinic. The second half of the day, you’ll find him in surgery, performing hernia, gall bladder and upper and lower endoscopic procedures. And true to his RPAP roots, Dr. Kidd still provides his services to patients in Benson once a week.

Since his arrival in Marshall, Dr. Kidd has treated many patients from the area who previously had to be seen elsewhere.  By offering outpatient surgical services at the new ACMC-Marshall Surgery Center, patients in Marshall and the surrounding communities experience increased convenience, less wait time, less travel time and exceptional care.

And Dr. Kidd is glad he can help provide surgical care closer to home for so many from Marshall and the surrounding area.

“It’s a privilege to serve the Marshall community and be part of an organization that is working hard to care for the region’s health with assets like the ACMC-Marshall Surgery Center,” he said.
